What is a Brazilian Wax?

A Brazilian wax is a hair removal service that removes all or most of the hair from the pubic area, including the front, upper thighs, and buttocks.

Brazilian Wax versus Bikini Wax

When it comes to bikini area grooming, understanding the difference between a Brazilian wax and a bikini wax can help you choose the best option for your needs. Your choice between a Brazilian and bikini wax comes down to personal preference and how much hair removal you’re comfortable with.

Brazilian Wax

Removes all (or nearly all) hair from the pubic area, including the front, upper thighs, and buttocks. This option provides a completely smooth finish, making it ideal for those who prefer full hair removal.

Bikini Wax

Focuses on removing hair along the bikini line, creating a tidy look without going beyond the outer edges of the intimate area.

Benefits of a Brazilian Wax

While embracing natural hair is a personal choice, if you prefer a more groomed look, Brazilian waxing offers several benefits:

Less Irritation Over Time

When done correctly, waxing typically leads to less irritation than shaving, which can cause cuts, razor burn, and ingrown hairs—especially in sensitive areas. With proper technique and aftercare, Brazilian waxing is gentler on the skin.

Long-Lasting Smoothness

Unlike shaving, which only removes hair at the surface, waxing pulls hair from the root. This results in smooth skin for up to 3 or 4 weeks, meaning fewer grooming sessions and more time enjoying soft, hair-free skin.

Softer Hair Regrowth

Regular waxing leads to finer and softer regrowth. Over time, hair grows back more sparsely, making maintenance easier and less painful.

Does a Brazilian Wax Hurt?

Pain levels vary depending on individual tolerance, but since the area is sensitive, some discomfort is expected. However, with the right preparation and high-quality wax, the discomfort lasts only a few seconds. Our experienced estheticians use techniques to minimize pain and ensure a smooth, efficient experience.

Is Brazilian Wax Possible While Pregnant?

Yes. However, due to increased sensitivity during pregnancy, you may experience slightly more discomfort than usual. Let your esthetician know in advance so we can take extra care to make the experience as comfortable as possible. If this is your first appointment at Hive, a consultation is encouraged to ensure that you are a good candidate at the present pregnancy stage.

Pre-Brazilian Wax Care

Proper preparation ensures the best results and a more comfortable experience. Follow these steps before your appointment:

Hair Length

Your hair should be about ¼ inch long (the size of a grain of rice) for optimal waxing. If it’s your first Brazilian wax, avoid shaving for at least 2 weeks beforehand.

Exfoliate

Gently exfoliate the area 1 to 2 days before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and help prevent ingrown hairs. Avoid harsh scrubs. Gentle exfoliation is key.

Clean & Moisturize

Take a quick shower before your appointment or use a cleansing wipe to freshen up. Hydrated skin can make waxing more comfortable.

Timing

You can still get a Brazilian wax during your period. Wear a tampon or menstrual cup and inform your esthetician beforehand.

Post-Brazilian Wax Care

After your wax, proper aftercare is essential for maintaining smooth, irritation-free skin.

Exfoliate

Gently exfoliate 2-3 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs and keep skin soft. Use a mild scrub or exfoliating glove.

Avoid Heat & Friction

For the first 24-48 hours, avoid hot baths, saunas, tight clothing, and excessive sweating to prevent irritation.

Be Gentle

Treat the waxed area with care and follow any additional aftercare recommendations from your esthetician.

By following these aftercare steps, you can enjoy long-lasting smoothness with minimal irritation.

How Long Does a Brazilian Wax Last?

Results typically last between 3 to 6 weeks, depending on individual hair growth. For the best long-term results, we recommend scheduling your wax every 3 to 4 weeks. Over time, consistent waxing leads to slower, finer hair regrowth, making future sessions more comfortable.

Anecdotal information to consider

  • your hormonal cycle can affect sensitivity. Before and during your period, your skin is said to be more sensitive. Scheduling your service for after your period can increase your comfort

  • stress can increase your cortisol level which also can increase skin sensitivity

  • caffeine can increase sensitivity. Consider holding off on coffee until after your service

  • alcohol can increase redness. Consider abstaining until after your service

  • hydrated skin is more likely to lead to a smoother wax. In the days leading up to your service, consume water regularly and moisturize your skin
