Considerations for Microneedling
what to consider before your appointment

Microneedling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is a minimally invasive treatment designed to improve the skin’s tone, texture, and resilience. When used thoughtfully as part of a professional skincare plan, microneedling can address a wide range of concerns—from fine lines and hyperpigmentation to acne scarring and dullness.

Why the SkinPen® device for Hive + Co?

SkinPen® was the first brand to achieve FDA clearance, meeting the highest safety and regulatory standards, with over 90 clinical studies backing its effectiveness. It features a sterile, single-use cartridge to prevent cross-contamination and advanced technology that eliminates the risk of scratching or dragging for a smooth, comfortable treatment. It’s customizable for individual skin concerns, remodeling skin for long-term skin improvements.

How Microneedling Works
Microneedling uses a device equipped with ultra-fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries (or microchannels) in the skin. This triggers the body’s natural wound-healing response, which occurs in three phases:
1. Inflammation
The microchannels activate platelets and immune cells, which release growth factors that increase circulation and begin tissue repair.
2. Proliferation
During this phase, fibroblasts produce new collagen and elastin—key proteins that support smooth, firm, and resilient skin. These channels also enhance the absorption of targeted skincare applied during or after treatment.
3. Remodeling
Newly formed collagen (type III) gradually transitions to type I collagen—the primary structural protein in healthy, youthful skin.
Who Benefits from Microneedling?

Microneedling is a versatile treatment with a wide range of benefits, including:
-
Softening fine lines + wrinkles
-
Natural collagen production slows with age. CIT helps stimulate new collagen and elastin to visibly reduce signs of aging
-
Smoothing acne scars + texture
-
Especially effective when paired with professional skincare, microneedling can improve pitted or uneven skin caused by past breakouts
-
Fading hyperpigmentation + sun damage
-
By promoting healthy cell turnover, CIT can help reduce discoloration and promote more even skin tone
-
Rejuvenating dull, tired skin
-
Increased circulation and skin renewal leave the complexion looking fresher, brighter, and more radiant

Microneedling is not suitable for everyone. This treatment should be avoided by clients who:
-
Are pregnant or nursing
-
Have active acne, open wounds, or skin infections in the treatment area
-
Have a history of keloid scarring or poor wound healing
-
Are prone to hypersensitivity or have certain blood disorders
If you're unsure whether this treatment is right for you, we’ll be happy to discuss it during a consultation.

How Often Should I Get Microneedling?
We generally recommend spacing sessions 4–6 weeks apart to allow for collagen remodeling. Guests targeting specific concerns like scarring or texture may require multiple treatments (3) for optimal results.
